“We may encounter many defeats but we must not be defeated.” That is one of her many quotes. As we now know that we saw a video about a life of hardship. The person that the video was about was Maya Angelou. She lived with her mother in Missouri, and then was sent to live with her grandmother in Arkansas with her bother Bailey Johnson. She was a writer, actress, mother, grandmother, and a teacher. What really happened before all of that? Maya Angelou was six foot tall, and thought that she was not beautiful. As a child Maya thought that her grandmother was her thought of beauty. Then as a teenage she wanted to find her place of happiness. Later on she ended up having a child out of wet-lock. So she, alone raising a child and still a teenager had no where to go. Then one day she found out that her son was kidnapped. So she tracked the babysitter down about 20 miles down in Bakersfield, California. In 1955 Maya Angelou stared in Porgy and Bess. On June 26, 1955 she wrote a book called A Brave and Sterling truth. The only thing that came out of all of the divorces and all of the ups and downs was faith.

The things I learned about Maya Angolou were Her real name is Margueite Johnson. She kept moving to a lot of homes. She thought her voice killed the man that raped her and so she didn’t speak for six years and then spoke again. She was pregnant at the age of sixteen. She became a poet. She wrote a poem about Bill Cilton. She rescued her son when he was kidnapped. When she stopped talking she only talked to her brother Baily. She also taught children stuff. Those are some of the things I learned about Maya Angelou.

She had a very brutal life. It is filled dramatic events and when most people would have given up and rolled over and sulked, she didn't. She was raped when she was young, had a child as a teenager, was once a prostitute, had many failing loves, but still didn't give up. But she became a poet, author, and acted. Now today she is a major role model. Now thats what I call CHARACTER!

As a child, Maya was 3 1/2 and sent to live with her grandmother for a couple of years. Then, she moved back in with her father for a couple more years. At age 6, she was sent back with her mom and was raped at the age of 7. She did not speak for six years except to her brother. At age 13, she started reading poetry and started speaking through the poetry. He words were getting more powerful and later on in her life she was involved in the civil rights movement and eventually became a poet. She wrote five books, one based on a poem called "I know why the caged bird sings." She wrote the book because she related to the poem. Maya went through a lot in her life.

We learned about Maya and some of her life was good and bad, all the ups and downs that she had. Some bad things in her life was when she was raped by her mothers boyfriend, and he said that if she told anyone he would kill her brother. She told her brother and her brother told the family. The boyfriend was put in jail then released after 1 day, then kiked to death. One good thing or a couple was that she married great men she said and that she also is a author for books, stared in some movies, and she is an inspiration to many people around the world. And she still lives to this very great day.
